Let’s get building!! Who wants to build a STEM toothpick tower? The materials for this project are easy to get and inexpensive. All you need for this project is 2 materials: toothpicks and marshmallows or gumdrops.

Start off by getting a pencil and paper and drawing a blueprint of your structure. Each group or person will need a cup of marshmallows and toothpicks. Next follow your blueprint and start building.

After building look at your blueprint and see if your structure is coming along the way you want or if you need to make changes. Does it stand on its own? If not, how should you fix that? Is it leaning? Is it the height and size you like? Does your structure need more legs? Did that help? When structures fail, you will have to rethink and redesign and improve. There are a lot of different materials you could use with the toothpicks to build like: play dough, clay, gumdrops, etc.
Have the kids make challenges with their structures and enjoy!
