Before You Throw That Out....

This period of staying at home and quarantine has given me the time to start working on that to-do list that has been waiting to be checked off! One of those things has been going through a lot of my clothing and household items and determining what I want to keep, sell, and donate. As I was doing this I found myself asking the question "is there a way I can update this item?" Some things I have done that I just loved was dyeing my rugs and bleaching my shirts. That's right, you can dye your own rugs! Or almost any household item for that matter! Also, a current clothing trend is something that has been bleached or distressed, which buying it already that way can be very expensive!

Here are some ideas of things you can do with items you already have around your house. It becomes a fun before and after project and some do not require you to buy a thing!

Materials for dyeing a rug (or any household item):

Materials for Bleaching (Reverse Dyeing) a shirt:
  • A shirt or clothing item of your choice (darker the better)
  • Clorox toilet bowl cleaner (for best results)
  • Or regular household bleach
  • Rubberbands (optional)
  • Gloves (optional)
  • Bathtub or shower

Instructions:
  1. Wet your shirt in the tub or shower
  2. Place it in the design you want (see tie-dye designs for inspiration)
  3. Pour the toilet bowl cleaner or bleach on the shirt
  4. Let sit for 10 minutes then check on shirt
  5. Once it has bleached to your desired result, rinse thoroughly
  6. Wash and enjoy!

Helping Preschool Understand Staying Healthy During COVID-19

With the economy opening back up and more and more businesses letting people inside, it is important to remember to wash your hands, practice physical distancing and if possible, wear a mask when you are going to be closer than 6 ft from someone. Helping our little ones understand the importance of these safety precautions can make all of this less intimating and can help them better adjust to the different rules and guidelines when going out in public. One thing parents can do is to simply talk to your kids. Telling them there is a germ or a virus outside that is making people very sick and here are some of the ways we can protect ourselves and others from getting sick. Opening up this dialogue with the kids helps them understand that they are helping keep themselves safe as well as their family and friends safe. When someone thinks of a superhero what comes to mind? Caps, superpowers, bravery and MASK. Telling kids they are active superheros during this time is a great way to bri...
