Listen, I get it. It is hard enough to do your routine let
alone trying to make your child keep up with their own. However, it is important
to stick to a healthy, hygienic routine. Now that’s not to say you can’t
splurge on some Chick-Fil-A or forget to shower when life gets busy. Here are
some tips on teaching and maintaining healthy hygienic habits:
1.
Be the
first to do it!
Kids learn best when watching and observing others, especially their parent. When brushing your teeth or brushing your hair, invite your child in and do it together! I remember I used to get ready when I was younger with my oldest sister. I used to be in awe at how independent she was and I wanted to be just like her! It was the highlight of my morning, spending some quality time with her.

2.
Make a
chart
Some children learn best with visuals and seeing first-hand what is needed to be done. Try posting a morning and nightly routine. Below is an example chart I found on Pinterest.com. You can always create your own to fit to your lifestyle. You can even include your child in on it to test their knowledge on their healthy routine!

3.
Make it
Interesting
There are tons of different ways to make the idea of personal hygiene seem fun. For example, try the “ Brusheez: The Little Monsters Toothbrush Timer” app. This is a free app where kids can choose their monster, change their pajamas, and even change how many teeth they have to match your child’s own. This is an educational timer and will sing songs when brushing so your kid will not be bored! There are a lot of different apps as well, however, some of them do cost money. If apps are not your thing, try finding a book on whatever hygiene topic and read or have your child read along.

It is important to teach children basic hygienic habits. Brushing
one’s teeth, washing hands, even down to blowing their nose all are significant
to your child’s health. Now is the time to stress these habits and get the ball
rolling on personal hygiene education!
